In a significant step toward national preparedness and youth empowerment, the National Service Authority (NSA) has announced that 10,000 selected personnel will begin basic military training this month. The six-week programme is part of a pilot initiative designed to equip Ghanaian graduates with leadership skills, discipline, and a stronger sense of civic duty. The training set to commence on August 31st, 2025 will be carried out in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces. According to the NSA, this marks the beginning of a broader agenda to integrate military orientation into the national service structure.
Officials say the goal is to build “a generation of young people who are not only academically equipped but physically ready and patriotically driven.” Participants will undergo drills, physical training, and lessons in national security awareness.
This pilot is voluntary, with interested personnel opting in during their recent registration window. Upon completion, trainees will be posted to their regular service institutions just like their peers without delay or disadvantage.
If successful, the programme could become a mandatory feature of national service from the 2026/2027 service year
