According to reports, the affected teachers have been demanding the payment of outstanding salaries, including 13 months’ arrears, for some time now. In response, the Ministry of Finance has pledged that the 2026 budget will explicitly include an allocation to absorb these unpaid salaries. Deputy Finance Minister Ampem told the teachers that “we’ll make provision for your salaries in next budget.”

This promise comes amid mounting pressure from the teachers, some of whom have threatened industrial action if their demands are not met.  The government’s move is intended to bring relief and restore trust between education workforce and state institutions.
