Health Minister, Kwabena Akandoh Reassures Nurses of Pending Salary Payments
JUSMAnewshub - 4th October,2025

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has reassured the final group of unpaid nurses that their long-awaited salaries will soon be settled.
In a statement, the Minister expressed regret over the delays, explaining that the problem stemmed from the expiration of financial clearance granted in August 2024 to recruit about 13,500 nurses. While the clearance lapsed in December, the government allowed the nurses to remain at post while provisions were made to address their pay. So far, over 7,000 nurses have received their salaries, with about 6,500 still awaiting payment. Akandoh stressed that his ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Finance to resolve the matter fully.
He noted that pharmacists and medical house officers previously faced similar challenges but have since been paid, and assured that rotation nurses and allied health interns affected by delayed allowances will also have their concerns addressed.
Reiterating government’s commitment, the Minister said every effort is being made to prevent such setbacks and to safeguard the welfare of health workers, describing them as central to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system.
