A nurse at Nkenkaasu District Hospital in the Ashanti Region has been queried by management after a viral video showed her using harsh and offensive language toward Ghana’s Minister of Health.
According to a letter signed by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Samuel Freeman Mensah, the nurse, identified as Ms. Bernice Aboagye, was seen in social media videos making remarks that management described as “inappropriate and scandalous.” The hospital said the videos had generated public backlash and prompted several concerned citizens to contact the facility to express their disappointment. Dr. Mensah noted that the incident had attracted discussions across social media platforms, with many people criticizing the conduct of the nurse and questioning the image it projected about the health service.
The development follows a major protest held on October 2, 2025, by the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives. Nearly 7,000 members took to the streets of Accra, marching from Efua Sutherland Children’s Park to the Ministries of Finance and Health to demand their unpaid salaries, which they claimed had been delayed for about ten months.
During the demonstration, Ms. Aboagye, who is said to be one of the affected nurses, expressed her frustrations in an emotional outburst directed at the Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. In the video, she accused the Minister of failing to take their concerns seriously, describing his response as “insincere” and “mocking.”
“We are tired of empty promises,” she said, comparing the Minister’s demeanor to that of a comedian trying to act serious. The original word used by the nurse to the Health minister was his is a drama king.
Hospital authorities have since begun internal disciplinary proceedings, emphasizing the need for staff to maintain professionalism even in times of distress or disagreement with government officials.
