TESHIE FACES A SEVERE WATER CRISIS THAT NEEDS AN URGENT ATTENTION

Reported by Don Patrico - 1st December,2025

For more than two weeks, families across Teshie have been living through an avoidable crisis  a severe shortage of potable water that has left taps completely dry. In a community that depends heavily on consistent supply for drinking, cooking, and sanitation, this disruption is more than an inconvenience; it is a threat to public health and daily survival.

With water no longer flowing through household taps, residents have been forced to depend on tanker services. This sudden shift has doubled and in some places tripled the cost of water. What once cost 1.50 cedis per gallon now sells for 3 cedis, and in some areas even 4 cedis. For many households already managing tight budgets, this inflated expense is simply unsustainable.

What makes the situation even more alarming is the lack of clear communication regarding the cause of the shortage. Residents have been left in the dark, unsure whether the issue stems from mechanical failure, pipeline damage, rationing, or another systemic challenge. The silence has created frustration and uncertainty in a community that simply wants answers.

This is an urgent plea to the authorities responsible for water supply and local governance: Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency. Teshie needs your immediate intervention.

We call on GWCL to urgently provide

1. A clear explanation of the root cause of the shortage.

2. A timeline for restoration of regular water flow.

3. Temporary measures to ensure fair and affordable distribution of water while repairs or adjustments are made.

We also urge the MCE and MP to prioritize this crisis, coordinate swift response efforts, and communicate transparently with residents who are becoming increasingly distressed.

Access to clean water is not a privilege it is a basic human right. The people of Teshie deserve timely answers, decisive action, and relief from the escalating costs they are forced to bear.

This situation must not continue unchecked. Lives and livelihoods depend on immediate intervention.
