Volta Regional Health Directorate Addresses Viral Drug Allegation Involving Staff Driver with the Directorate Official vehicle

The Volta Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has responded to a viral news report that has raised public concern over an alleged narcotic drug case involving one of its staff. The Directorate has moved quickly to clarify the situation and reassure the public of its commitment to integrity and accountability.
According to an official press release dated 25th January 2026, the incident involves Mr. Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, a driver employed by the Directorate. On Friday, 23rd January 2026, management was alerted that Mr. Dogbey had been arrested and detained at the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho. The arrest followed reports that he was driving an official vehicle belonging to the Directorate, with registration number GV 2460-14, which was allegedly carrying items suspected to be narcotic substances.
Upon receiving this information, the Directorate did not remain passive. Management immediately dispatched a team to the police headquarters to verify the facts. The Police confirmed the arrest, and Mr. Dogbey is currently in custody, cooperating with ongoing investigations.
While the matter is being handled by the Ghana Police Service, the Volta Regional Health Directorate has also taken internal steps to address the issue. Plans are underway to set up a Committee of Enquiry to independently examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. This move underscores the Directorate’s intent to ensure transparency and establish the facts beyond the police investigation.
In addition, the Directorate has announced measures to strengthen the monitoring and tracking of its official vehicles. These steps are aimed at preventing any similar incidents in the future and safeguarding public trust in the institution.
