GES condemns alleged rape and stabbing incidents during Eastern Region Inter-school sports competition

What was meant to be a celebration of talent, teamwork and school pride has now left many parents anxious and heartbroken.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned two disturbing incidents that occurred during the Super Zonal Sports Competition in the Eastern Region a stabbing and an alleged gang rape involving students.

According to reports, a male student from Koforidua Senior High Technical School was stabbed near the competition grounds while stepping out to buy lunch. What should have been a simple break between events quickly turned into an emergency. He was rushed for medical care, treated, and later discharged. One suspect is currently assisting the police with investigations.

In a separate and even more troubling incident, a female student from Osino Senior High School was allegedly lured into a bush near the sports venue and gang-raped. The details have shaken the entire school community. Two suspects are in police custody, while a third suspect believed to be the ringleader and a former student of Koforidua  remains on the run.

The young survivor has received medical attention and is currently undergoing counselling to help her deal with the trauma. Beyond the headlines and official statements, there is a real human story here — a young girl whose sense of safety was violated at an event designed to empower and unite students.

GES has made its position clear. Acts of violence and sexual abuse, it stressed, have no place within the Ghana Education Service. The institution has assured the public that all individuals found culpable will face due process under the law.

In addition, GES warned that the schools connected to the incidents will face sanctions where necessary. The message is firm: accountability will not be selective.
