CETAG Strike Nears End as Emergency Meeting Signals Possible Breakthrough

Goku Justice - 14th February 2026

After nearly three months of industrial action, there are strong indications that the strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) may finally be coming to an end. The prolonged strike, which significantly disrupted the academic calendar of Colleges of Education across the country, left students and administrators in uncertainty as negotiations between the association and the government dragged on.

Although Colleges of Education officially resumed on 9th February, academic work has largely remained stalled due to the continued absence of CETAG members from lecture halls. The government had earlier confirmed that funds had been allocated for the payment of the allowances in dispute. However, CETAG insisted that the strike would only be called off after the approved funds had been fully credited to their accounts.

This firm stance prolonged the impasse, with students returning to campus but unable to fully commence lectures. Many students have since been left anxiously waiting, hopeful for a resolution that would allow academic activities to resume without further delay.

Information reaching JUSMAnewshub this morning suggests that CETAG held an emergency meeting to deliberate on recent developments. Reports indicate that a decision has been taken to call off the strike. While this news has sparked optimism among stakeholders, CETAG is yet to release an official statement confirming the suspension of the industrial action.

There is growing expectation that the association will issue a formal communication by the end of today or, at the latest, tomorrow. Such an announcement would provide clarity and pave the way for lecturers to return to classrooms and restore normal academic operations.

Students currently on campus are advised to remain calm and patient as they await official confirmation. The coming hours are likely to be decisive, and many are hopeful that this long-standing dispute will soon be resolved, allowing Colleges of Education to refocus on their core mandate of training the nation’s future educators.
