Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally summoned the Russian Ambassador following allegations involving a supposed Russian national accused of publishing explicit images of Ghanaian women without their consent.
In a press release issued in Accra on 17 February 2026, the Ministry confirmed that the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov, was invited to the Ministry at the instruction of the Minister for Foreign Affairs. The meeting was convened to register the Government of Ghana’s strong protest over the alleged unlawful actions, which authorities say violate Ghanaian laws and infringe on the rights and dignity of the victims involved.

According to the statement, the Ghanaian government described the incident as deeply troubling, stressing that the unauthorized circulation of intimate content represents a serious breach of privacy and may constitute cybercrime. Officials indicated that the purpose of the summons was not only to express displeasure but also to seek cooperation from Russian authorities in ensuring that justice is pursued.
During the meeting, Ambassador Berdnikov acknowledged the gravity of the allegations, particularly the violation of privacy and the broader cybercrime implications. He reportedly expressed the Russian Federation’s willingness to cooperate with Ghanaian authorities in addressing the matter.

However, the Ambassador noted that he could not immediately confirm the nationality of the individual at the center of the controversy. He further stated that the name circulating in sections of the media does not correspond to a recognized Russian name and appears instead to be a vulgar or inappropriate expression in the Russian language. He added that similar alleged activities linked to the individual had surfaced in other countries and were already under review by Russian officials.
Despite the absence of a formal extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia, the Ambassador pledged that the Russian Embassy in Accra would share relevant information to support Ghana’s ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend the suspect.
