Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, are in stable condition after being involved in a road accident on Thursday.
The incident occurred on the Bolgatanga Tumu Road while the ministers and their teams were travelling in a convoy to the Upper West Region. They were scheduled to participate in official engagements marking the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education.
According to an official statement released on 12th February 2026 by the Ministry of Education, the accident involved the ministers’ convoy during the journey to the commemorative events. The statement assured the public that both ministers are receiving medical attention and are responding well.
“All members of the convoy are currently in stable condition and receiving the necessary medical attention,” the statement indicated.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to emergency responders and health professionals who swiftly intervened at the scene. It also acknowledged members of the public for their concern and support following news of the crash.
While details surrounding the cause of the accident have not yet been disclosed, officials say further updates will be communicated if necessary.
The news sparked concern among residents in the Upper West Region and across the country, especially as the ministers were en route to significant educational milestone celebrations. The 40th anniversary events were expected to highlight the contributions of both colleges to teacher education and national development.
