What Are the Basic Requirements?
To get into a Diploma in Registered General Nursing program in Ghana, you need at least:
- C6 or better in Core Maths, English, and Integrated Science
- C6 or better in three elective subjects, especially from Science or Home Economics
So, if you got an E8 in Mathematics, you don’t qualify for the diploma straight away.
Is There Any Way Around This?
Yes. Here are your options:
1. Resit Your Exams
You can rewrite the WASSCE and aim for at least a C6 in Core Maths. This is the most direct path to qualify for the diploma program.
2. Start with a Certificate Program
You can apply for Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) or Nurse Assistant Preventive (NAP). These programs allow for:
- E8 passes in core subjects (including Maths)
- E8 in electives
These programs last 2 years. After that, you can upgrade to a diploma later through a top-up program once you’ve met the requirements.
Why This Is Still a Great Path
- You gain practical experience in healthcare early
- You still earn a recognized certificate
- You can progress later to become a Registered Nurse
- You don’t waste time—just follow a step-by-step route
Don’t give up because of one grade. The nursing field in Ghana is flexible, and many professionals started with certificate programs. If you’re determined, you’ll get there.
Take the next step: consider resitting or apply for a certificate program, then grow from there. Nursing needs passionate people and that includes you.
