Felix Gyamfi, Director-General of the National Service Scheme, has announced that allowances for national service personnel are set to increase in the upcoming service year. This follows discussions with the Finance Ministry, which has made room in the national budget to accommodate the increment.
Speaking at a Pre-Service Orientation in Kumasi, Gyamfi expressed optimism that new personnel will benefit from the improved allowances. For the upcoming service year, 132,393 prospective personnel have been issued PIN codes a notable drop of 26% compared to the average over the last three years. In fact, the numbers have declined by 36% from the peak recorded during the 2022/2023 service year.

The decrease is partly due to the exclusion of 3,597 applications from 22 institutions that were not accredited, as confirmed by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. To enhance efficiency and cut down on fraud, the National Service Authority has also introduced tighter validation processes.

Gyamfi noted that these changes will allow the government to save money, which can then be used to offer better pay to those enrolled. He also encouraged more Small and Medium Enterprises to take on service personnel, helping to build youth interest in the sector.
Overall, the steps taken by the National Service Authority aim to make the system more efficient, transparent, and rewarding for genuine participants.
