GES Cautions Schools Against Unauthorized Collection of PTA Fees

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has firmly cautioned all schools across the country against demanding or collecting Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) fees from parents without proper authorization. According to a public statement issued by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, no school has been given permission to charge PTA fees. He emphasized that any institution found engaging in such acts will be considered to have breached GES regulations, and such actions must be immediately reported to the appropriate authorities. This directive comes in response to increasing reports of some basic and second-cycle institutions allegedly requesting money from parents under the guise of PTA dues. The GES has made it clear that education in Ghana, especially at the basic level, is meant to be free under the government’s Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) policy, and no additional charges should be imposed on parents.

Daniel Fenyi reiterated that the government remains committed to providing adequate resources to ensure smooth teaching and learning in schools. He added that while PTAs play an important role in supporting school development, any form of monetary contribution must first be approved by the Ghana Education Service before implementation.
Parents have therefore been urged to remain vigilant and avoid making any unauthorized payments to schools. GES further encourages community members and parents to report any headteachers or school officials found violating this directive for immediate disciplinary action.
