Condemning Abuse of Power: GES Must Act Now

It is deeply disturbing to learn of the recent incident at Jachie Pramso SHS where a 19-year-old student, Mary Amoako, was physically assaulted by the headmaster for showing compassion to a fellow student. Mary was reportedly lashed multiple times for lending her jacket to a male classmate who had been punished for not wearing a uniform. No student deserves to be brutalized for an act of kindness. This is a clear abuse of power and a violation of the student’s rights. We strongly condemn this unprofessional and inhumane action. Such behavior has no place in our educational system.

We call on the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to investigate this matter urgently and hold the headmaster accountable to face the law. Discipline should never cross the line into physical abuse. Mary deserves justice, and the system must protect every student from such treatment.

I asked myself is that the best way to punish a student who acts as a good Samaritan to someone under punishment?  This headmaster should never be forgiven at all.

Let us stand against violence in our schools. Teachers are meant to guide, not harm.
