The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken a bold step toward promoting menstrual hygiene and girls’ education by distributing over 6.6 million sanitary pads to schoolgirls across all 16 regions of Ghana. The initiative, launched in celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that no girl misses school because of her menstrual period. Operating under the theme “The Girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis,” the campaign highlights the importance of empowering young girls to thrive in education without barriers. According to GES, the monthly supply of sanitary pads to girls from basic to secondary levels forms part of the Government of Ghana’s promise to promote gender equality and safeguard the health, dignity, and confidence of adolescent girls.
