Ghana Mourns: The Sudden Passing of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Ghana is in mourning following the sudden death of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away on October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. The news came as a shock to the nation, as there had been no reports of illness or hospitalization before her passing. The cause of death remains unknown, leaving the public in disbelief and sorrow.

Nana Konadu was more than a former First Lady she was a pioneer for women’s empowerment and political leadership in Ghana. Through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she founded in 1982, she championed women’s rights and community development across the country. She later broke political barriers by founding the National Democratic Party (NDP) and becoming the first woman to contest the Ghanaian presidency. Her courage and influence made her a trailblazer and a voice of strength for generations.

Her sudden departure has left many reflecting on her legacy and contributions. Known for her boldness and dedication to social change, Nana Konadu transformed the role of First Lady into one of leadership and advocacy. Though her passing was unexpected, her impact remains undeniable.
