Ghana Returns to International WASSCE in MAY/JUNE 2026.

JUSMAnewshub, 2nd December,2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that starting from May/June 2026, Ghana will abandon the “Ghana-only” version of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and revert to the international WASSCE — the same exam taken by all West African partner countries.

Previously, Ghana adopted a separate schedule and version of WASSCE due to disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns about maintaining educational standards, contact hours, and exam integrity. This shift aims to restore full recognition for Ghana’s senior-high credentials beyond national borders. According to some education analysts, the international WASSCE is widely accepted across West Africa and internationally — avoiding the extra scrutiny sometimes faced by holders of the Ghana-only certificate.  ALSO SEE: How to Check Your WASSCE Results On Your Phone

At the same time, GES has cautioned that the transition demands greater diligence from students. In its recent statement, the Service urged all final-year candidates to take their preparation seriously. There will be no relaxation of rules: invigilation, supervision, and examination protocols will remain strict.

For students, parents, and schools, this change carries both opportunity and responsibility. The opportunity: your WASSCE will now be universally recognized across West Africa. The responsibility: you’ll need to prepare more thoroughly, stay disciplined, and approach the exam with seriousness to meet international standards.
