KNUST Grading System
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) uses a structured grading system to assess students’ academic performance. This system is based on letter grades, grade points, and percentages, which determine a student’s Grade Point Average (GPA) and overall classification.
Grades range from A to F, with A representing excellent performance (70-100%) and F indicating failure (below 40%). B (60-69%) is considered very good, C (50-59%) is satisfactory, and D (40-49%) is a pass but not strong. Each grade carries specific grade points, which contribute to the GPA calculation. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) determines degree classifications. A CGPA of 3.60 or higher results in a First-Class degree. Second-Class Upper falls between 3.00 and 3.59, while Second-Class Lower ranges from 2.00 to 2.99. A Third-Class degree is awarded for a CGPA between 1.50 and 1.99, and anything below 1.50 may lead to academic probation.
