Launched earlier this year, the policy has already benefited 15,000 students. It is part of the President’s wider education and social protection agenda aimed at easing financial burdens and promoting equal access to higher education.
Mahama also reaffirmed his administration’s intention to complete ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Eastern Regional Hospital started by the previous government. “We are not here to abandon projects. We will complete and expand them,” he said.
To address youth unemployment, the government has introduced a National Apprenticeship Programme to equip young people with practical skills. Additionally, Mahama revealed that six months of delayed allowances for nursing and teacher trainees have been paid, with a promise of regular monthly payments moving forward.
