Mahama Introduces Free University Scholarship for Cocoa Farmers’ Children

JUSMAnewshub - 4th August,2025

President Mahama has announced a new scholarship scheme that will cover tertiary education for children of cocoa farmers. Starting in the 2026/2027 academic year, students from cocoa farming families will benefit from full scholarships, thanks to a policy that COCOBOD will develop during the 2025/2026 cocoa season. The initiative was made public by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson. It aims to make higher education more accessible for rural farming communities, many of whom face financial barriers.

The scholarship will include tuition and other key support. It also forms part of a broader support system that includes the return of free cocoa inputs such as fertilizers and insecticides.

This policy is expected to uplift thousands of farming families and help bridge the gap in educational access between urban and rural Ghana.
