President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed and scrapped the COVID Levy
JUSMAnewshub -10th December 2025

The NDC government promised to abolished so many levies implemented by the previous government NPP.
One of the Levies was COVID 19 levy which comes with 1% on all goods on the market. This levy has made goods and services increase and some business collapsed. The current government promised to scrap all when voted in to power.
Accra, December 10, 2025 , The unpopular 1 % levy on goods, services, and imports imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic has officially been abolished. This follows the assent by President John Dramani Mahama to the COVID‑19 Health Recovery Levy Repeal Act, 2025.
The Act was passed by Parliament earlier and signed into law today at the Jubilee House in Accra. ([GBC Ghana Online][2]) The levy had been introduced under COVID‑19 Health Recovery Levy Act, 2021 (Act 1068) at the peak of the global pandemic to help finance the government’s Covid-19 response and relief efforts.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Mahama described the repeal as “promise made, promise delivered.” He pointed out that Ghana had become one of the few countries still taxing citizens for a pandemic that had long ended and said the move was overdue.
Under the new law, the 1 % charge will be removed beginning January 2026. Officials say this will ease pressure on households and businesses, reducing the overall cost of goods and services across the economy.
The repeal is one of several tax-policy changes promised by the current government to eliminate so-called “nuisance taxes.”
The government of the day led by His excellency John Dramani Mahama has indeed fulfilled his promise to Ghanaians.
From next year January, there won’t be anything like COVID 19 levy.
Ghanaian appreciate the government of the day for not just promising but they have indeed delivered their promises.
