Continuing students will also see their fees reduced, a decision aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians. According to the President, the initiative forms part of government’s commitment to improve access to healthcare training and to motivate young people choosing careers in nursing and midwifery.

The reduction is expected to boost enrollment into the profession at a time when Ghana needs more trained health workers. Student unions have already described the announcement as a timely intervention that will allow many who had dropped out due to cost to return to school.
