THE OSP HAS REDECLARES KEN OFORI ATTA, THE FORMER FINANCE MINISTER WANTED AGAIN

Ken Ofori-Atta Wanted Again After Missing June 2 Deadline

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been re-declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) after he failed to appear as scheduled on Monday, June 2, 2025.

This marks a dramatic turn after a brief pause in legal action. Earlier this year, the OSP removed his name from the wanted list when his lawyers gave a firm commitment that he would report to authorities on the agreed date. That promise has now been broken.

Ofori-Atta is under investigation over several major corruption-related matters. These include a controversial revenue assurance deal with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), as well as funding irregularities linked to the National Cathedral project and other financial decisions during his tenure from 2017 to 2024. His legal team had cited health concerns, submitting documents that claimed he was undergoing medical treatment abroad. But the OSP rejected this explanation, stating it lacked specifics and failed to justify his failure to appear in person.

Following his absence, the OSP has formally reinstated his fugitive status and announced plans to issue an INTERPOL Red Notice. If granted, this would pave the way for his arrest and extradition from abroad.

Back in March 2025, Ofori-Atta filed a legal challenge at the Human Rights Court, arguing that the initial declaration branding him a fugitive was unlawful. He also demanded the removal of related social media posts from the OSP’s platforms. That case is still pending.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, had earlier warned that failing to appear on June 2 would lead to immediate consequences. With the deadline now passed, the legal process is moving forward with urgency.
