Things one must know when want to apply for study leave with salary or without salary

If you want to pursue further studies, you need to officially apply for study leave. There are two types of study leave: study leave with pay and study leave without pay. Join me on WhatsApp for more news https://chat.whatsapp.com/IwYdwerq679JpLNCAQXatL
Study leave with pay is very limited and is only given for programs that are highly needed in Ghanaian classrooms. You must get approval from the Ghana Education Service (GES) before you begin. If approved, you will continue to receive your salary for the entire four years of study. After completing the program, you will be posted back to the classroom, your certificate will be recognized, and you will be upgraded accordingly.
The second option is study leave without pay. This type is more flexible. You can choose any program you like, but you won’t receive a salary during your studies. However, your teaching position will still be available when you complete the program. You will need to apply to be reinstated and you will be given a school.
But if you leave your post without officially applying for study leave, it is considered a ‘vacation of post.’ You will be replaced, and it will take a lot of effort and time to be reinstated.
If your program is approved by GES, you can submit your certificate later for upgrading. If it is not approved, your certificate will not be accepted for upgrading.
Another reason why it is important to seek approval before starting your studies is that GES needs to plan for your future salary adjustment and get financial clearance in advance. This helps to make the upgrading process smoother after you complete your studies.
If you don’t notify them or seek approval, it means your upgrading is not guaranteed. You will have to keep the certificate to yourself.
Lastly there are other modes of studies apart from regular which seem as though they don’t affect normal academic work. But the truth is, no matter the mode of study you choose (distance, weekend, sandwich, etc.), it can affect your work in the classroom. GES is not stopping you from learning. They just want to be informed so they can make internal arrangements to ensure that your students do not miss out on learning. Is this helpful to you?
