TTAG President Urges Teacher Trainees to Pause 2025/2026 Fees Payment Amid Negotiations

JUSMAnewshub - 24th October 2025

The National President of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), His Excellency Divine, has advised all teacher trainees especially level 200, 300 and 400 across the country to hold on with the payment of their 2025/2026 academic fees. This directive follows concerns raised by students over the sudden upward adjustment of fees, which many believe is beyond their financial capacity.

Speaking to the media, President Divine emphasized that TTAG is fully aware of the challenges trainees face, especially considering the economic hardships confronting most households. He assured students that the association is actively engaging key stakeholders  including the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Ministry of Education to find a lasting solution to the issue. According to him, these consultations are ongoing, and trainees should remain calm and avoid rushing to pay the new fees until further notice.

Many trainees have expressed frustration over the increase, arguing that it does not align with the current cost of living and the limited financial support available to them. For most students, teacher training colleges have always been seen as an affordable route to higher education and employment. The new fee adjustments, however, threaten to push many into financial distress or even force some to defer their studies.

TTAG’s leadership has pledged to continue advocating for the welfare of all teacher trainees, ensuring that their voices are heard at every decision-making table. “We are not just negotiating for a reduction,” President Divine stated, “but also pushing for transparency and fairness in how these fees are determined.”

As the dialogue continues, TTAG has urged all trainees to stay united, patient, and hopeful. The association promises to issue an official statement once concrete agreements are reached with the relevant authorities. For now, the message is clear do not pay any fees until the negotiations are concluded. Personally, I commend the current TTAG president for his bold decision on this pressing matter affecting the students currently.
