The University of Ghana, Legon, has directed all students who recorded a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.0 at the end of the 2024/2025 academic year to withdraw from the university. The directive, which forms part of efforts to uphold academic excellence, follows the institution’s academic regulations on student performance and progression.
A letter dated October 2, 2025, and signed by Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyarko-Danquah, Director of Academic Affairs, with reference number AA.0IE/10-25, confirmed the decision. The letter cited Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which outlines the conditions for passing and withdrawal. According to the regulation, a student can only progress to the next level if they achieve a CGPA of at least 1.00 and meet departmental requirements. It adds that there will be no probation for those who fail to meet this benchmark. The rule further states that any student who does not meet the progression requirement “shall be asked by the Registrar to withdraw from the University.”
