Urgent Request for Traffic Calming Measures Near LEKMA Hospital and Along the Teshie Manet Junction Road

By Don Patrico - JUSMAnewshub, 3rd December 2025

I write to draw your urgent attention to the alarming rate at which vehicles speed past the entrance to LEKMA Hospital, located near Teshie Tsuibleoo, and along the slope of the road from Teshie Police Station toward Manet Junction. This stretch of road has become increasingly dangerous for pedestrians, notably patients and caregivers of LEKMA Hospital, who regularly cross to purchase essential items and return.

Some years ago, there was a speed-reducing ramp placed a few meters from the hospital entrance. However, that ramp has long since been flattened likely due to the combined effect of road surface heat and heavy traffic rendering it ineffective. As a result, vehicles continue at high speeds past a location where vulnerability is high.

On the route toward Manet Junction, the situation is even graver. At Agblezaa, many lives have already been lost as a result of speeding and the negligence of drivers failing to yield to pedestrians. The absence of marked zebra crossings or proper traffic calming infrastructure contributes significantly to the danger pedestrians face there.

In light of these recurring hazards and tragic losses, I earnestly call on the relevant authorities to take immediate action. Specifically, I urge you to reinstall and maintain a properly constructed speed ramp just before LEKMA Hospital’s entrance. Additionally, marked zebra crossings should be installed at key pedestrian points especially at Agblezaa and traffic calming signs placed along the slope to alert drivers of pedestrian activity.

This is not merely a matter of convenience, but of public safety and safeguarding human lives. Swift intervention will protect patients, visitors, and community members. I trust in your commitment to public welfare and appeal for prompt attention to this critical issue.
