Your Absence from National Economic Dialogue was Your Own Decision-Kwakye Ofosu To NPP
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communications, has vehemently refuted allegations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was deliberately excluded from the National Economic Dialogue, a seminal forum convened by President John Dramani Mahama’s government to address Ghana’s economic predicaments.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, the dialogue was an inclusive platform deliberately designed to foster synergy and collaboration among all stakeholders, and nothing precluded the NPP or any other political party from attending, even in the absence of a formal invitation.
“I shall have to verify with the organisers to ascertain the facts, but I am cognizant that individuals who can be described as members or supporters of the NPP were in attendance. Notable personalities such as Kwame Pianim, a leading member of the NPP, were present, as were former NPP appointees, including Dr. Paul Acquah and Dr. Ernest Addison, who both served as governors of the Bank of Ghana under NPP regimes.”
Kwakye Ofosu underscored that the NPP’s absence was a deliberate choice, citing their previous threats to boycott the event and their historical propensity for boycotting similar forums, such as the Senchi Economic Forum. “In any case, the NPP, only a week ago, was threatening not to participate, stipulating preconditions for their attendance.
Consequently, they did not convey a strong inclination to participate. Furthermore, they have a propensity for boycotting similar events in the past… Thus, their track record suggests a reluctance to engage in such matters. While their absence is regrettable, it is essential to acknowledge that nothing precluded them from attending,” he articulated.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has exhorted Ghanaians to rally behind the reset agenda, emphasizing that collective action is crucial to steering the economy towards recovery and sustainable growth.
Speaking at the launch of the National Economic Dialogue, President Mahama stressed that the forum was not merely a platform for discussing economic challenges but rather an opportunity to devise pragmatic solutions and chart a progressive course for the nation’s financial future.
